This book we designed is a wonderful resource for anyone considering homeschooling, or in 2020, anyone being forced to figure out to teach their children at home because of a global pandemic! The author, Laura Kronen, realized the story of her journey from public school to homeschooling was needed in the world asap. We first spoke in early May and the book was published on June 26th.
That timeline was definitely the fastest we’ve ever worked with a client to publish a book. The reason it could happen so quickly was the fact that the author had manuscript professionally edited (Thank you Hatch Editorial Services!) so when we received it we were able to quickly format the interior with very few rounds of proofing.
PROJECT SCOPE:
The book is 6 x 9 size, trade paperback, with 206 pages. We used matte cover stock and white paper and black ink for the interior. We also created the eBook version of the book and used the full color quotes which made them really stand out to the reader.
While the manuscript was edited, we created the full cover spread and prepped it for KDP. The author purchased the ISBN’s she needed and decided on a price point which allowed us to create the barcodes to add to the cover. Having that done before the manuscript arrived kept us on target for the publishing date we had chosen.
We also created an interior template and designed the visual quotes the author requested based on the design of the cover. The branding of any book includes creating the same look and feel with fonts, chapter pages, and any additional visuals. We recommended creating the visual quotes so they would easily be repurposed for social media. That meant creating them in grayscale for the book and full color for her social media and ebook.
Laura is a true authorpreneur, she has done the work to promote her book. Before she even started writing this book, she had developed a platform, Super Cool Homeschool and had built an audience which was highly engaged. Because of those factors already in place she has over 140 Amazon reviews and had many opportunities for speaking on local and national platforms.
