CLIENT STORY:
This design is very close to my heart as it is for my dear hubby’s business. We’ve been married over 35 years and he has always been my biggest supporter of my business. So when we moved to Tennessee in 2009 it was my turn to support him in his dreams to have a second career as a woodworker. This past year we have worked to create his logo and website, document his projects on video and blog posts and begin building his social media presence on Instagram. But we didn’t realized the potential we have to make this succeed until we attended WorkBench Conference in Atlanta and discovered the community of makers. This group of like minded woodworkers, craftspeople and designers have encouraged us to move forward to make this dream a reality!
PROJECT SCOPE:
The logo was the starting point for this client but I knew we had a long list of pieces he would need. Creating an online product based business takes equal amounts of time for product development and marketing, so we wanted to make sure we had the marketing tools prepped. Once we were happy with the logo we moved onto the website. I chose to use WordPress as the platform to make sure we had the room to expand as his business grew. I chose a template with a portfolio style blog which allowed us to make the best use of photography. I also made sure we connected his MailChimp email to build his mailing list for future email marketing campaigns. It was easy to make a link to his Etsy page which always helps the SEO. As we prepared for the conference we made sure he had a business card and a sticker designed which are mandatory marketing pieces in this industry.
The unique marketing tool for a woodworker is a branding iron. I kept this in mind as I designed his logo and we were able to purchase an electric branding iron online and he uses it as a final step to each project. The bolder font and thicker outline render quite well as it burns into the wood.
This brand design is working well and gives him an edge over competitors as he builds beautiful pieces for his clients.
