An Unforgettable Escape from Lithuania to Western Europe during World War II
If a book was published by a traditional publisher in the past, but is no longer in print, it is possible for the author to republish a second edition, if they’re able to obtain the copyright.
CLIENT STORY:
This is the second edition of Lili Hriskevicius Tremblay historic memoir. In 1933, she was born into one of the wealthiest families
in Lithuania and lived in a mansion on her family’s thousand-acre estate. She lacked few luxuries; however, with the onset of World War II,
Lili’s home was taken over first by the Soviets and later by the Germans. These tensions put the family on the run. Leaving one child and several older relatives behind, Lili’s parents made a harrowing trip west, through Lithuania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Germany. Traveling largely in a horse-drawn cart, the family lived day-to-day facing famine, disease, thievery, and the vast horrors and depression of war. But they survived and through her father’s faith in God, and his ceaseless efforts to deliver his family to safety, they survived the war and ultimately immigrated to the United States in 1949. Lili eventually became a teacher, married her husband in 1961, and proceeded to travel the world with their family. This is her amazing story.
PROJECT SCOPE:
We were contacted by the author’s daughter-in-law asking for assistance after the copyright was returned to the author from the original publisher. The book was no longer in print, but this first-hand story of the suffering of innocent people in World War II, is incredibly important to preserve for future generations.
The manuscript was scanned from the original book and two additional chapters were added at the author’s request. The author was able to provide digital scans of the original photos in her possession, which we used to create a new cover engaging the reader immediately in the story. We improved the old photography using Photoshop to bring details out of the shadows.
Working with these photographs and reading the story was a reminder of how horrible war is to the innocent people caught in the middle of the conflict.
