A Father and His Son Journal
CLIENT:
Kara Lewis is a mom and author who loves to share the knowledge she has gained from raising four boys! Her website THEJOYSOFBOYS.com is her way of giving back. She knows what it’s like to feel a bit overwhelmed with the thought of raising boys into good men. She offers guidance for parents as they navigate each new stage of their son’s life to give him the purpose and motivation he will need as he grows from boy to man.
In 2018 we worked with Kara to format A Mother and her Son, A Shared Journal Adventure. As most parents know it’s difficult getting boys to open up to the little details in their lives. This first journal was an opportunity to write these details out based on simple prompts in the book. The mother and son have a place to share their thoughts and even ask each other questions in a written format. The end result is a treasure for each of them years later. We were thrilled when she asked us to work with her again on her second book.
SCOPE:
This new book is for the father and son – with the same idea of generating new conversations and memories. Since the cover of this book was to follow the same format, we were able to simply change the colors and add a few new creatures, before updating the title.
The interior layout required a few changes to the main characters – removing the mother and adding dad. Then we were able to continue the same page design we had used in the first book, using the same design for borders and question layout, then adding new illustrations. Kara wrote new content for the majority of the book and added a few new sections based on feedback from the first journal.
For both books we worked with Kara to produce the marketing materials she needed to promote her book on both her website and her social media.
