eBook Resources

How do you prefer to read a book? Paperback, hardcover, or an ebook? When we design and format books for our authors, we always recommend an ebook format as readers like to have all the options!

I always think of an ebook as a very long website that has to work on various devices. The book has to look good with multiple font options, background, with color, and without color, and before uploading, the file must pass validation.

We format each book project with these issues in mind, ensuring the design flows well even with photos, links, and footnotes. The software below ensures that the formatting we’ve done will work. Or at least tells us where the issues are.

There is an easy button for children’s eBooks. Amazon’s free software, Kindle Create, allows you to upload a PDF of your print book interior. The software then converts it to a KDP-friendly file that’s ready for publishing!

This free software allows you to view your .epub file as it will be seen on e-reader devices. It displays a simulation of a reading tablet in which you can choose the display typeface, the font size, screen orientation, and even click on live links.

Sigil EPUB EDITOR

Sigil is a free code editing software that allows you to modify the HTML and CSS code of your eBook. It is made specifically for this function and makes navigating the .epub code much easier. When InDesign can’t do any more, you can push the bounds further with Sigil.

pagina ePub checker

Pagina EPUB-CHECKER

Epub-Checker is a simple, easy-to-use, and free software from Pagina, a German technology company. It will quickly run a check on your eBook and determine if it has validation errors. If there are any fatal errors, it will give you the name, file location, and line of code at which it occurs.
